Avoriaz’s immediate ski area is perfect for those learning, those progressing and those looking to push themselves. Varied and snow sure terrain around the resort leads to direct links to Morzine, Chatel and the Swiss resorts of the Portes Du Soleil. Wide sweeping pistes characterise the area and provide more than enough terrain for a ski holiday even without linking to Morzine and Switzerland. For the more advanced there are plenty of bumps, steeps and off piste to be found too. Towards Switzerland and the wider Portes Du Soleil there are endless opportunities for high mileage skiing and fantastic terrain for every level. Advanced skiers and snowboarders can access some steep pistes including the famous Swiss Wall, patrolled off pistes ‘snow zones’ and wonderful backcountry. For those of the freestyle persuasion there are some of the best parks in Europe and the unique Burton stash. The Portes Du Soleil is not to be missed.
Number of lifts in the Portes Du Soleil: 206
Total km’s of piste: 650 km
Avoriaz transfer times (approximate times based on normal road conditions)
Geneva 1 hour 40 minutes
Lyon 3 hours 15 minutes
Avoriaz is only 1 hour and 45 minutes from Geneva airport making for an easy transfer in good weather. It can be very busy on both Saturdays and Sundays as both are big changeover days in the Portes Du Soleil. Due to the proximity to many towns and cities the high number of day skiers at the weekend can raise the number of vehicles on the road. With the traffic from Avoriaz, Morzine and Les Gets exiting through the same roads below Les Gets we suggest caution and elongating departure times on Saturdays and Sundays from New Year until the end of March.
