The shores of Lake Geneva are 30km from Morzine with a popular beach area in Thonon which also hosts a beachside cinema in the Summer. Just along from here is the town of Evian, famous for its bottled water. The town itself has pretty fountains, gardens and pathways. If you fancy a flutter, then there is also a casino on the lake front.
Heading back just past Thonon, is the small medieval town of Yvoire. Again, on the water’s edge, Yvoire is well known for its medieval buildings and beautiful flower decorations during the Summer season. There is also the Jardin des Cinq Sens, a garden specialising in herbs in the centre of the town.
Travelling a little further afield but keeping to the lake ‘theme’ is Annecy. Set on the lake, the old town has 2 canals and the river Thiou running through it, plus narrow, cobbled streets. Overlooking the city, the medieval Chateau d’Annecy, once home to the Counts of Geneva and contains a museum with regional artifacts.
